Valie Export - (1940- ) multidisciplinary Austrain artist, famous for her 1960s feminist works such as “Touch Cinema”, in which she built a tiny ‘movie theater’ around her naked upper body, so that her body could not be seen but could be touched by anyone reaching through the curtained front of the ‘theater’. She then went into the street and invited men, women, and children to come and touch her.

Cathy Opie - (1961- ) artist specializing in the photography of transgendered people. Features of her oeuvre include auto-mutilated self-portraits, portraits of performance artist Ron Athey, and portraits of GLBTQ couples reminiscent of Hans Holbein's portraiture. To execute some of these portraits, she utilized a polaroid camera as large as a room, producing one-of-a-kind polaroids that measure from 10 to 12 feet.

James Baldwin - (1924-1987) novelist, writer, playwright, poet, essayist, and civil rights activist. His novels explored the complex social and psychological pressures related to being black and homosexual well before the social, cultural or political equality of these groups could be assumed.

Diane Dimassa - (1959- ) author of the cult-hit comic strip ‘Hothead Paisan’, “homicidal lebsian terrorist”.
